The inaugural issue of the new Journal of Water and Climate Change (IWA Publishing, UK) a Journal of the International Water Association, London, UK, was released in hardcopy in March, 2010. Seven peer reviewed papers were published with contributing authors from Finland, Thailand, Germany, UK, Switzerland, Australia, the Netherlands, and USA. Robert Shibatani is on the Editorial Board. Robert Shibatani was a panelist on the Statewide Issues Forum at the Spring ACWA Conference in Monterey. The session titled, "Not Your Grandparents' Storage Project" provided an overview of various storage projects and what will make a project successful in competing for funds should the November 2010 water bond pass. Mr. Shibatani's presentation, "A New Era in Source Area Water Storage Development", discussed the physiographic, operational, and climate change threats that are compelling a new look at on-stream water storage in the Sierra Nevada source area watersheds.

The Shibatani Group Inc. was recently selected, along with the Water Education Foundation to prepare the Sierra Nevada Water Report for the Sierra Nevada Conservancy. This report will detail the uses of water from the Sierra Nevada, who uses it, where it flows, when, how it is conveyed, and under what institutional, regulatory, and operating processes. The final report is due later in 2010.

Robert Shibatani will be the guest speaker at the Sierra Club Mother Lode Chapter general membership meeting at the Seaman's Lodge in Nevada City. The program starts at 7:30 pm.

Topic: "The Threat of Climate Change on Sierra Nevada Snowpack and Water Supply: What's the Real Evidence and What Are Its Implications?"

Robert Shibatani, Vice Chair of the Environmental & Water Resources Institute/ASCE - Sacramento Chapter will be moderating the Delta Case Study for the 2010 Fall Symposium; "Resiliency of Water Management and Dynamic Balance in the 21st Century - Adaptive Planning, Development, and Operational Strategies" scheduled for September 28 at the Hyatt Regency in Sacramento.
